Human Shield

"...And help her in whatever matter she may require assistance from you, for she has been a helper of many including myself [shielding us from suffering]."

That's Phoebe in the above verse in Romans 16. What a noble thing to say about someone.

Shielding others from suffering. Particularly others like a high profile, high risk someone like the apostle Paul. I might also consider the helpless, or overlooked ones in my immediate family.

I need to learn more about the practical application of that. Sounds a bit self-sacrificial doesn't it? It's probably one of those "beware of what you ask for" things. That would please God. It's something He is looking for in those who are His sons by faith in Christ Jesus.

It's an Asset

"It's an asset."

This little quote will need to be added my list of favorite quotes.

We were at an important business meeting. Sitting in the meeting was a gentleman from a state regulatory bureau concerned with oversight and the financial health of the institution. He would have like to have heard that the business is doing well and finances are quite sound. But, because of the economy and other variables, that is not the case.

One person at the meeting said it would be nice to escape from the constant pressure of imminent financial trouble and finally have a little smooth sailing.

Then came the above quote from a brother nearby, "It's an asset."

Anytime you are suffering from difficult circumstances beyond your control, (self-inflicted or otherwise); anytime you are going through doubt, depression, sickness or pain - this is your quote: "It's an asset."

As Charles Spurgeon wrote, "O blessed hurricane that drives the soul to God and God alone!

Packing Heat?

"For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, Who says to you, Fear not; I will help you!" Isaiah 41:13
Walking through life as it comes our way
In the habit of self-dependence...
We usually have a weapon for given situations:
A "pocket knife" for the little things...
A "large caliber pistol" for the big things
Tucked away somewhere...
Somewhere that can be readily reached by our "strong" hand
The right hand...
BUT - the Lord our God says He is holding our right hand.
How can we grab for our weaponry?
His right hand is free to defend.
"For by strength shall no man prevail."
